A Walk In Central Park

Last week the invitations to Mission Vista’s 2018 prom were given out to juniors and seniors. The theme was finally revealed: “A Walk in Central Park.”

Details surrounding prom have been kept under wraps by ASB, and students will have to wait until the night of prom to see the venue. But students do know now that the event is to take place at the Escondido Center for the Arts, on May 19th.

The reveal of this year’s theme was received with mixed reactions from students. Some loved the theme, either because they liked New York or because Central Park fits into the forest-y theme they were hoping would be chosen. The people that hated it said Central Park wasn't a “real theme.” Senior, Manoela Rezende says it makes her think about “going on jogs and the hot summer days in New York.” adding that “People want something either really romantic or glamorous for their prom.”

Among other critics, Kelly Katsama, MVHS senior, says “We live in California, and prom has a very New York centric theme. Also, they branded it [prom invitation] with succulents, which doesn't fit New York.” Katsama suggested the theme would be better “If it were just a park theme and not super specific. It would still be lame, but better.”

Speaking as a senior, myself, I liked the theme. My outfit was picked out about a month in advance, so I was hoping the theme would match. On the other side, senior Katelyn Peterson says that “A garden theme or enchanted forest” would have been at the top of her list.

Hopefully, no matter how students feel about this year’s theme, prom will be a memorable end of the year experience for all its attendees.
